IN BRIEF:

The secondary school comprises the upper and lower secondary sections. In the lower secondary section, Year 7 and Year 8 follow the SPN 21 curriculum while Form 3 is still under the old curriculum. The Form 3 students are prepared for the Penilaian Menengah Bawah (PMB), the public examination at the end of Form 3. Incidentally, this year's (2009) batch of Form 3 students are the last batch who will sit for PMB. The Year 8 students are prepared for the Student Progress Examination (SPE), the public examination at the end of Year 8. In the current upper secondary level, the students are prepared for the Brunei Cambridge GCE'O' Level examination which they will sit for at the end of Form 5. The present Year 7 and Year 8 students however may sit for the same examination at the end of either Year 10 or year 11 depending on their SPA (Student Progress Assessment) after Year 8.

Lower secondary
Due to the change in Brunei's education system, the current (2009) Form 3 students are the last batch in this level. Depending on their performance in the Penilaian Menengah Bawah (PMB), they will proceed to the upper secondary level in either the Science stream or the Art stream.
From 2010 onwards, the lower secondary level will consist of Year 7 and Year 8 only. Depending on their SPA, Year 8 students may proceed to either the 2-year or 3-year upper secondary programme. Under each programme, they may go to either the Science stream or to the Art stream.

The academic year is divided into mid-year and final year. For each half year, the Y7 students are required to sit for one test and one examination while the Year 8 and Form 3 students must sit for 1 test and the mid-year examination for the 1st half year and for the trial examination and graduation examination for the 2nd half year. Also forming part of the academic assessment scheme are the student's classwork, homework and project work.

Upper secondary
Depending on their PMB results, the 2009 Form 3 students who will pass the PMB will proceed to a 2-year upper secondary education in either the Science or the Art stream. This means that this batch of students will sit for the GCE'O' level examinations in 2011.
Depending on their SPA, the 2009 Year 8 students will proceed to either a 2-year or a 3-year upper secondary education in either the Science or the Art stream. This means that this year's Year 8 students will sit for the GCE'O' Level examinations at the end of either Year 10 or Year 11. The same scheme applies to the current and future Y7 students.
The academic year is divided into mid-year and final year. For each half year, the Form 4 students are required to sit for one test and one examination while the Form 5 students must sit for 1 test and the mid-year examination for the 1st half year and for the trial examination and graduation examination for the 2nd half year.
